Volunteering with HSTC
HSTC is always in need of volunteers; it is the lifeblood of our organization. There are many ways you can assist HSTC-here are just a few!
- Become a foster home! Opening up your home to a pet in need is one of the most rewarding experiences. Nothing can describe the level of satisfaction you feel after finding the perfect home for a previously homeless pet. If you are willing to provide shelter, care and the time, we will provide the veterinary care and food for your foster pet. If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, please contact us any time and we will be happy to discuss further.
- Assist a foster home! Do you have all the pets you can handle at home but still want to spend time with the homeless? Then contact us to volunteer at a current foster home. Fostering can be hard work and our volunteers love to have help exercising, cleaning and feeding their foster pets. We also appreciate anyone wanting to take pictures of them for the Internet listing and transporting them to and from the vet clinic and to adoption days. Exposing pets to additional people also helps our pets maintain confidence and aids in socialization.
- Write a grant. There are kinds of programs, government and private funding for animal welfare organizations. Because of our rural location, it is almost a certainty that we could qualify for many of these grant programs. Problem is we just do not have time or expertise to complete the paper work. If you have experience with grants (or even if you do not have experience but have the time to learn), we would really appreciate someone volunteering to write a grant. We would gladly provide any information needed to assist someone in writing a grant for HSTC.
- Volunteer at any of our fundraising events. We have several annual fundraising events, including the golf tournament, annual dinner with silent auction and the pet parade. We always need assistance planning, organizing, gathering sponsorships and hosting our events-all it takes is a donation of time. Though sometimes hard work, they are always lots of fun and a great way to meet new people (especially those that share a love of pets). We are always open to new ideas on raising money so please feel free to contact us anytime and share your thoughts, anything to assist homeless pets!
